Fall Seniors
by admin on Oct.31, 2009, under Seniors
I photographed my niece’s friend last weekend. The fall colors were just past peak, but there was still plenty of color. This young lady is a senior at Fenton High School, so we drove around some of her favorite spots in Fenton, MI. We plan to go to Pontiac this weekend for some night shots

Photographed Hannah from Brandon High School for her senior portraits. She ran track and likes water, so we went to her high school, the creek at the local church, the Clarkston mill pond and my backyard.
Senior shoot – Andrew

I photographed this senior yesterday. Andrew and his parent did not have any specific thoughts on shots they wanted and asked for me to do what I like. It doesn’t get much better than that for a photographer! I wanted to play with big strobes, so choose to shoot at our home in Clarkston. We started with natural light behind the barn. The sky was overcast and flat so I added a silver reflector. We then went to the red barn down the road. I treid using a Nikon flash to add some interest and found there was just enough light to make a difference. Thanks to www.strobist.com for inspiration.
We ended up at a field next to our property. I was able to stretch a couple extension cords and used the Alien Bees 1800 at about half power as the key light.
Chose to use a warm B&W and contrasty desaturation for the the majority of the processing.
Andrew was a very good model and has a great serious look, very majestic.
Winter looks like summer Senior portrait

Last week I got a call where an exchange student wanted to get into the Clarkston High School yearbook. She has only been at the school a few weeks and missed the October deadline. I called the Yearbook Coordinator and he said they were in the very last stages of laying out the book and if I got it in today, the student would be included in the yearbook. Our schedules matched Sunday afternoon. I thought she just needed the yearbook portrait. As we started talking she asked if I do the shots that students share with each other. I said did and that is what I really enjoy doing, I also said they are usually shot outside. We looked out the family room window onto a backyard, low sun, brilliant blues sky. There were two drawbacks, the yard was covered in one foot of snow and it was 8 degree. Welcome to Michigan. I also noticed a pole barn with green and white siding at the back of the yard. It was a pleasing green color, so I said I was game if she was. She picked out a couple tops, put on some boots and a jacket and we tramped through the snow. What you see here is just a few of the shots. I’m really pleased I was able to get shots that did not look like winter. It was well worth cold feel and hands. We later went inside and shot the yearbook shot.
Revisiting some summer Senior shots

I went back and reprocessed some images from summer. The shots are of friend’s twins, who were students of Oxford High School in, well, Oxford MI. The girls are both in drama and singing. We were able to get onto the school stage, really cool.
