Blues band location photography

Crossfire Blues Band location photography.  Rob, the least guitarist for the band needed a photo of the current lineup of the band.  We scheduled an evening shoot not to be too far from Rob’s office.  I scouted locations in the Waterford, MI area that I thought would work.  The day started overcast and the forecast was supposed to stay overcast.  I found this white painted brick wall at a local carwash, Forsters Auto Wash on Dixie Hwy.  I went in and asked for permission to shoot on their property and they kindly agreed.

I met Rob and the band made evening and of course the weather had changed, it was sunny.  I had originally planned to use a strobe as my key light and use the ambient light is fill.  As with any band location photography, I had to change to using the sun as key and strobes is fill light. I used a Alien Bee 1600 and their lithium battery so ai had plenty of light and the AC power to run it.

I had the band lineup against the brick wall with a little bit of space between them and shot a few versions. I then asked Rob to take a couple steps forward and the next couple band members to take one step forward to make the classic flying V. I have the band change their poses throughout.  We did some smiling and some looking tough and serious.  In editing I made some corrections for parallax. I got a web page of all the images to Rob and we chose a couple favorites.  I made a color and black and white version of each.  The band will use the images for social media, entries into festivals and other promotions.
